What I like about Islam 1#

Sometimes People ask me what made me practice Islam, or what made me decide to cover or why Islam .. and at times I just go blank even though I know exactly why, I just can't always put it in Words.

Allah Knows

I am a born Muslim just didn't know anything about Islam because I wasn't taught nothing. This alone is a hard one to digest but anyway (that's another story). I would say that I re-chose Islam when I took the decision to actually practice it. Like so many people I was searching for some way to relax myself, or have some "Me- Time". Some do Yoga, meditate etc. I decided I want to start praying.

Dua's/ Prayers to the World

For a long time now I've brainstormed for ideas on how to accurately teach my boys islamic studies. Yes there are many books out there, resources, we have the internet etc. but my own knowledge is limited and I prefer to take it very slowly, knowing with certainty that whatever goes into these precious memories of my boys is the truth !!
A dear sister in Islam gave me a great idea on how to make dua's with the boys. Insha'Allah by the will of Allah subhanahu wa t'ala we will be able to do it on a daily basis. We sit in a circle after having read some hadith of our dear Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon Him) having the globe in our midst. We then look at the continents and make a short dua (prayer) for each continent. And some specific dua's for the countries that are going through calamities. May Allah (the all High the Most Forgiving) accept our dua's.

Taking a Stand

This evening I brought K's bike in the backyard, closed our house's side gate and on the way back in the house I looked around the neighborhood thinking "look at me, I am in california, having 3 gorgeous boys and I get that "I have to pinch myself to realize I'm not dreaming" kind of feeling. Originally from Switzerland, not in my wildest dreams I would've ever imagined that me, Myriam, would end up married with 3 kids in our house in california !!! WOW..

It wasn't always dreamy beaches and high palm trees waving in the wind. At several points I think I can speak for anyone, we have to take decisions that we just know they'll be turning our life up side down. One of these moments was, when I decided to practice my religion, Islam. More over when I decided to show it "publicly" by wearing the "Hijab" (Headscarf).
